HANDS DOWN The Best iPhone and iPad Game

After getting a new pair of pants (because of this games shear awesomeness), I can write about Rage HD. The splattertastic shooter Rage HD from the Doom and Quake guys (Id Software). The graphics are unbelievably good, the best of any iPhone game yet. It's a must-download if you love shooters—give it a try.

Interestingly, id Software decided the best way to do a first-person shooter on the iPhone is ad a rail shooter. This reminds me of old-school shooters. You don't move, you just point and shoot. It's actually great. Effects are good, with mutant blood splatter everywhere. The only downside on this game is gameplay on the iPad. I didn't really enjoy using the faux d-pad.

All in all, it's surprisingly solid to play, combined with truly amazing-for-a-phone graphics. Hopefully it's part of a coming onslaught of more serious iPhone games for serious gamers. Remarkably, it's only $2, and it's a universal app iPhone and iPad, so it's a genuine deal. Fair warning: It's a whopping 746MB. But it's well worth the space it takes up!
